Spanning the northern regions of Alberta and British Columbia, Canada’s Peace Country is the most northern agricultural region in the Americas. Nestled against the foothills of the northern Rockies, fed by the pure waters of northern rivers, the Peace Country is blessed with fertile soils that combine with a unique valley geography and climate to create a northern agricultural oasis.
The concept of Branding the Peace Country originated among a group of innovative grain farmers in the Peace Country who knew from their own experiences that the crops they grew were above average in harvest yields, taste, color, hardiness, and nutritional content. In 1999 these farmers met to brainstorm how this high quality could be captured to assist Peace Country producers in obtaining premium prices for their crops. Ten years later the momentum of the vision of this original group of farmers continues to capture the imagination of the supporters of Branding the Peace Country.
Internationally renowned for the superior quality of our canola, oats, barley, wheat, timothy hay, flax, alfalfa, and honey; the Peace Country is one of the few remaining pristine growing areas in the world. The Peace Country's growing advantage infuses all things grown in the region whether it is the exported raw ingredients that contribute to feeding 90% of the global population or the farmers' market vegetables and meats that feed our own families, Peace Country quality is recognized.
However, to become truly competitive our regional producers need proof.Branding the Peace Country is investing in comparative agricultural research that defines the superior qualities of the commodities produced in our region. These findings will be incorporated into a strategic “premium price campaign” that targets niche market buyers who not only purchase the agricultural commodities grown in the Peace Country but will provide marketing that promotes the Peace Country as the place of origin of the ingredients used in their products.
“Branding Peace Country Association” advocates for scientific recognition of and demand for the superior quality of Peace Country agricultural commodities.
